Television has finally caught the attention of actors who are using it as a medium to expand their base beyond cinema-going youngsters. After popular southern stars such as Akkineni Nagarjuna and Chiranjeevi, it’s the turn of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal to make his presence felt on television. The actor’s fans have a reason to celebrate as the Drishyam star is all set to make to his debut on TV via the show Lal Salaam, to be aired on Amrita TV.
Mohanlal recently revealed the logo of the programme through a special video he shared via his Facebook page. Going by the glimpse of the visuals, it looks like a chat show where he will be seen getting very candid with his guests. In the promotional video, actor Manju Warrier is seen sharing the screen with Mohanlal, and seems very excited about being part of the show.
Right from the teasers to official statements from Team Mohanlal, Lal Salaam was conceived not as a programme on cinema, but as a tribute paid to Mohanlal by Mohanlal himself. In random intervals, the actor and his friends would stop their chat and invite special guests non-celebrities who are involved in extraordinary charity work and introduce them to the world.
Over the first two episodes of the show, Mohanlal hosted Jolly Johnson who runs a charitable institution called H20 for the disabled and the elderly destitute, and a group of auto-rickshaw drivers from Thiruvananthapuram who ferry cancer patients for free. In Lal Salaam, he uninhibitedly sings hit numbers from his films, and urges his guests to join him. When Meera Nandan, the secondary anchor of the show, welcomes the audiences in English, he protests lightly.
