Akshay Kumar’s much-talked-about Toilet: Ek Prem Katha has been leaked online, three weeks before its release on August 11. What began as a buzz that the Independence Day weekend release – which turns the spotlight on rural sanitation in India – had become a victim of piracy, turned serious with star choreographer Remo D’Souza claiming that he had a copy of the film on a pen drive and that he had alerted the producers.
Akshay, who is currently in London promoting the film with co-star Bhumi Pednekar, issued a statement: The fight against piracy is critical and it’s reassuring to see the swift action taken by the Crime Branch on the unfortunate incident involving our film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. I would like to urge my friends, colleagues, fans and audiences to join us as we fight piracy. Thank you all for your support.
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha deals with the need of sanitization in the country and is based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swacch Bharat campaign. The film has been co-produced by Akshay Kumar and Neeraj Pandey.
On Friday, 21 July, a few reports suggested that the movie featuring Akshay and Bhumi Pednekar was available online, and choreographer Remo D’Souza brought it to the notice of the filmmakers. Remo confirmed the news to a leading daily and said that he has informed the producers about the same.
