Dangal continues its historic run in China in its sixth week. The film has dropped less than $1 million for the first time on 39th and 40th day. After 40 days, Dangal box office collection in China stands at $181 million (1165 cr INR). Looking at the current pace, it might not be able to do the magical $200 million. Though it will remain in Chinese theatres for three more weeks so it cannot be ruled out completely.
Dangal’s China collections are now higher than it entire worldwide gross before its release in China. Dangal is amongst Top 50 highest grossing movies in China ever. Dangal has also overtaken marvel’s blockbuster Guardians of Galaxy 2 which released simultaneously with Dangal in China. Dangal is the only Indian movie to cross 100 Million in overseas.
The big Difference in China vs USA is that China doesn’t have a lot of indian diaspora and Dangal is appealing to hardcore chinese audiences. Aamir’s previous films PK, 3 Idiots and Dhoom 3 also did well in China. PK created history by entering the Rs 100-crore-club in the Chinese box office and collected around Rs 120 crores in the country. Dhoom 3 and 3 Idiots collected $3 million and 3 Idiots $2.2 million in China respectively.
Aamir is also gearing up for his home production Secret Superstar, which stars him alongside Meher Vij and Zaira Wasim, who is collaborating with Aamir once again after Dangal, where she played child Geeta Phogat. Aamir Khan will also be seen essaying India’s first astronaut Rakesh Sharma in Mahesh Mathai’s biographical drama Salute. The film will be produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Ronnie Screwvala along with Aamir Khan himself.
