Director S.S.Rajamouli’s historical Baahubali: The Conclusion is still retains a spot in the top ten rankings in the Chennai Box Office, even after seven weeks of release. In its seventh weekend. the Tamil version of the film has collected Rs.16,78,320 from nine screens and 73 shows with an average of 80% occupancy.
The total collection made by the Tamil version of the film in Chennai stands at Rs.16,24,44,1990. The film also released in Telugu and Hindi versions in Chennai. The overall box office collections of all three versions is Rs.18,39,81,280. Within this week, the film touted to surpass Rs.20 crores mark in the Chennai city itself.
For a few brief, glorious weeks in May, the creators of Baahubali: The Conclusion enjoyed the distinction of having made the highest-grossing movie in Indian cinema history. But the seeds of Baahubali’s downfall, ranking-wise, had already been planted when the Aamir Khan-starring, Nitesh Tiwari-directed family sports drama Dangal began its run in China’s theaters on May 5th.
The first reaction of many Baahubali fans was denial and angry cries of box office fraud. Surely the Chinese box office numbers were fabricated. It was simply beyond the imagination of most that an Indian movie could earn $50 million, $100 million, $150 million in that territory, or any other. But the numbers are real, and now Baahubali stands more than 250 crore rupees ($38 million) behind Dangal in total, worldwide box office receipts.
