Vijay Devarakonda-starrer Arjun Reddy has breached the $1.5 million mark at the overseas box office yielding windfall returns to buyers there. In India, the film is all set to collect more than Rs 25 crore by the end of its theatrical run. The unorthodox and hard-hitting drama of a psychotic medico has been received well by audiences as it offered something fresh to them in terms of characterisation and narrative, breaking many stereotypes along the way.
Starring Vijay Devarakonda, Shalini Pandey in the lead, Arjun Reddy is directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. This is also the first instance of an A-certified film doing so well in the overseas market. Should the film end up collecting $2 million, it would be an all-time record for a small film. On its opening day, the film received overwhelming responses and collected a total $1,180,317 at the US box office in the first week. Due to its huge demand, the distributors increased its screen count from 88 to 124 in the country in the second week.
Arjun Reddy clashed at the box office with Nandamuri Balakrishna and Puri Jagannadh’s gangster drama Paisa Vasool in the second week. Vijay Devarakonda’s film was rock-steady on its second Friday. After Paisa Vasool was rejected by audiences, Arjun Reddy became the first choice for many audiences and went on to show decent growth on Saturday and Sunday.
Arjun Reddy has become 15th-highest-grossing Telugu movie of all time in North America. And it is set to beat the box office collection record of Balayya’s Gautamiputra Satakarni which earned $1.6 Million at USA box office in its life time.
