Tollywood’s Stylish Star Allu Arjun’s latest release, Duvvada Jagannadham aka DJ, has crossed the coveted Rs 100 crore mark at the worldwide box office in its first week itself. DJ has become the fastest Rs 100 crore earner in Allu’s career and it is his third film to enter the elite Rs 100 crore club. Earlier, Race Gurram and Sarrainodu had grossed more than Rs 100 crore in its worldwide collections.
According to the trade, the film has earned about Rs 10.5 crore in the Karnataka box office alone. From the rest of the country, the film has collected Rs 2.2 crore and has earned Rs 6.8 crore gross ($ 1 million) in the US and approx Rs 3.5 crore in the UK, UAE, Australia and New Zealand. DJ has domestically grossed Rs 90 crore, with Rs 78 crore coming from ticket sales in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The total worldwide distributor share is pegged at Rs 62.2 crore.
Duvvada Jagannadham tells the story of an undercover cop, DJ (Allu Arjun), who masquerades as an innocent Brahmin, Duvvada Jagannadham. While Allu Arjun was mostly praised for his role, DJ was criticised for its wafer-thin story. Apart from Allu Arjun’s electrifying screen presence, his crackling romance with co-star Pooja Hegde is one of the major highlights of DJ, which has music by Devi Sri Prasad.
The film marked the first time collaboration of Arjun and director Harish Shankar, best known for helming Gabbar Singh. The film registered one of the best openings for Arjun, who continues his winning streak after last year’s blockbuster Sarrainodu. Produced by Dil Raju, the film marks his third hit in a row with Arjun after Arya and Parugu. DJ released in around 1500 screens worldwide and is going strong everywhere.
