Allu Arjun’s Duvvada Jagannadham aka DJ may not have opened to great reviews but the film is rocking the box-office, leaving critics and trade pundits completely bamboozled. While a lot of people believed the reviews and slightly mediocre trade talk might affects the film’s box-office prospects, but the numbers have proved everybody wrong.
The film opened big on released day with worldwide gross of Rs 33 crore and is expected to mint over Rs 100 crore from its opening weekend. In the US, the film even surpassed Salman Khan’s Tubelight on the first day, much to the surprise of its makers. In the film, Arjun plays a Brahmin chef, and he apparently took his role so seriously that he gave up eating meat, while shooting the portion where he plays the chef, as he wanted to get under the skin of the character and stay pure.
Not only in India but from entire south Indian and international market too, Allu Arjun starrer is getting excellent response and grossed near 70 crores worldwide in the opening weekend. Due to Eid on Monday, Duvvada Jagannadham is set to increase it’s business total further by good rate. Also it seems to stay steady in weekdays as well. The film registered one of the best openings for Arjun, who continues his winning streak after last year’s blockbuster Sarrainodu.
As per the latest trade reports, DJ collected close to $ 63K by Sunday night and might only add a few more by the end of the day. However, the film has been performing comparatively better than Salman Khan’s Tube Light which is witnessing dull response in overseas. DJ might cross the one million mark by the end of second weekend. Nevertheless, it might end up as a loss venture for the overseas buyers.
